Walking up to the landing at Obushkon
Walked up to Obushkon on Wednesday to see if my boat is still at the landing.
It's only about 1.5km from the landing at Edith. If you go up that way
wear boots and have some repellent with you. Here a a couple of pics.

Fishing this morning
Out to see if there would be some Whitefish around and guess what I caught a Catfish, first one for me in Gowganda Lake. I have heard of others recently too. This one was about a foot long. I was temped to try and cook him but I sent him back in to his buddies as I had some fish already.

Ice may be out tomorrow, maybe
The ice has taken a beating after yesterdays storm. Wind was very strong put the power out for more than 24 hrs. Lots of trees down all over. The big spruce in the back of my yard has been shortend about 16 ft. Today the wind from the north has pushed all the ice down to the north part of the lake. At the edge it is just grinding it up, it may be wide open tomorrow.

Yesterday it just about rained and spitted all day
Got out yesterday for a few more pics some of the water flowing under the bridge at the highway, really starting to melt now. Went into Burke Lake where the water end's up next.
Then off to Miller Lake which still has lots of white ice, while walking around the bush there I found a old, old home. It used to have a bit of cellar and all that's left is a bit of frame work poking out of the hole. Some logs were used too.

Diabase Lake
Out to Diabase Lake yesterday wandered around the edge to get our chairs we cached in a tree. No more walking on the ice so it was a little harder to get to them. Took a few pics along the way.
Today more snow on the ground, not on the road. Tomorrow is supposed be nice maybe.

Ice and cool weather still
Today we have snow on the ground again, every day is a surprise. Edges of the ice have hardly moved from the shore except down by the dam. A pic looking down south.

Walking the Bouche Rd
Pretty hard walking with the snowshoes lately. Take a few steps and the snow collapses every once in a while. The Bouche Rd. is all plowed out so I take the truck park walk 3km and back to the truck. Then park as far as I went last time, Now I'm up near the Osprey Nest going north to the cuts.

Snow Fleas
On the snowshoes for a couple of days and noticed lots of Snow fleas in the snow, this year they seem to be all over, hadn't seen that many in the snow. Here is a clip from Google about them and some pictures I took.
They are in the snow everywhere this year.

Finally made it around the snowshoe trail
It's been several years since we were snowshoeing quite often in the winter. Back then the trail was all marked with flagging. Since then looking for it took a long time, last fall I did some of it and a bit more the winter. This week I started from the other end at Hedlund marsh up to McIntosh Lake. At the lake there was a cut several years ago and all the trail markers were gone, finally finished joining the other end together. This trail starts up Bouche Rd and ends a Hedlund marsh at the road and walk back on the road to Bouche Rd. Here are some pics I took on the Hedlund/McIntosh end. Next time out will be the first time in along time to go all the way around.

Dreary weather, damp, no sun, grey skies
The weather is terrible, had to cancel breaking trail on the snowshoes, lake is full of slush and to top it of we haven't seen the sun for ages. Tempertures have been around 2-5 °C during the day.
Not using very much wood in the stove either. This afternoon I washed the car with the hose and used the chamois to dry it off. Every time I have been to town I was going to wash the car to get the salt and sand of it and say by the time I get home it will be just as bad. Now it's clean it will get dirty going into town at least I didn't have to pay for it.

Starting to open snowshoe trail
This afternoon I started to break trail on the snowshoe trail. It's about 5Km. with a walk on the road to get back at truck. Today I put in about 1.5Km. This hasn't been used for about 2-3 years. Last fall I tagged flagging and did quite a bit of cutting, one area hasn't been tagged at all. Hopefully I will keep at it through January if the weather holds. The trail starts at Bouche Rd and ends at Hedlund marsh.
