Snowshoe trail ready

Finally went around the trail by snowshoe. There is just enough snow but still lots of sticks to catch you up once in awhile. Great day warmed up nice with the sun shinining. Lots of rabbit tracks and a fresh wolf track on MacIntosh Lake.

This AM's temperature -37C Brrrrrrrr

Cold one this morning and going to be another tonight and then it's supposed to get a bit warmer. Good thing winter construction is under way again. Finally trimmed the last two windows in the dining room and have torn down the back wall. I was going to start drywall but it was too cold to cut it outside. The rest of the ceiling will be done this time too. The outside wall behind the stairs will be next with insulation vapour barrier and drywall.
The door to the living room and back porch have been covered to stop the dust going all over and at the top of the stairs is covered too. Hopefully the dust will keep out of these areas. This is the last section of the whole house finally after several years of winter work.

North from bridge to Burke Lake

Sunny and warm today had to get out. Started under the bridge on the north side and followed river up to Burke Lake. Didn't need the snowshoes. Quite a bit of open water at the south end of Burke Lake for this time of year. Still working on the laptop.

Back on the snowshoes

Almost not enough snow yesterday but I was going to check a pond that I hadn't been to before. I wore the shoes just to get the dust off them, finally I had to bushwack through a thick cedar swamp off came the shoes for the last 200 meters. Not much of a pond about 200 meters round, will go back again and cut a new trail in. Couple of pics of the way in. Top is the pond click for larger pic.

Snow day

About 10cm of nice fluffy snow over night. Finally winter might be on it's way back. A couple of days ago Paul and I did the snowshoe trail--- -without snowshoes. That's how little snow there is. Today is a good addition to the base thats there. Here a a couple of pics just before the sun went down. I'm having a little difficulty working on the laptop as my main computer is sick and the doctors can't find the cure yet. I notice some of the colours are not quite the same with the laptop my desktop was colour calibrated.

Bright and cool

Great day today, started to dig out the tools for the next step in the renovations, the kitchen and what was left over from last year. Some of the kitchen cupboards are now being built by woodworker extrodinare Ed Barnstaple. I am going to start by trimming the 2 new windows I put in over a year ago, more drywall on the ceiling and insulating the west kitchen wall and drywalling. Got out to take a few pictures around the property and down by the lake. It appears that the beavers have their own hydro system.

Back from the holidays

This is a day late, I just sat down last night to get the blog done and the power went out because of the high winds. I think it came back on around midnight.
Been on the road since Dec. 23rd, having Christmas with my son in Sudbury and then to my sisters in Lindsay and to see Kate in Huntsville and back home the 31st. Great visits along the way but it is still great to be back home.
The trip from Huntsville to Gowganda was wet and foggy. The temperture around 8 degrees C. Lots of snow missing and the lake flooded with water, grass sticking up all over. Spring thaw in January. Then around 8 pm last night a blast of wind hit the side of the house and the temp. went down to -10C, little bit of snow and everything froze up again, just the way it should be.
