ATV trip report

Left Duncan Lake landing around 8:30AM, foggy, some light drizzle but OK. Turned south on Highway 560 at the Indian Lk Rd. and travelled across to the South Power Line and then to the Bay Lumber Rd. and south to Chrysler Lake, the first stop. This was a good time to have coffee and adjust the gear on the machines. We then made the crossover to the Sand Lake Rd, while crossing some of us were fortunate to see the suckers in the West Montreal River.

Onward and forward down the Sand Lake Rd. (a large 2 lane logging Rd, well maintained) a long haul of some 35+km. Finally we got into some more rugged topography where we stopped at a rock proclaiming GOD'S COUNTRY in large red letters. When we went up to the lookout you could see it actually was just what the sign said.

Moving on through this rugged country we stopped at a gravel pit to have lunch, as we were there 4 motocross bikes came along and stopped. They were heading for Timmins, and would be there by evening, mind you they were travelling a lot faster than us. They said the rest of the road we were travelling was in good shape.

We crossed many creeks and streams along the way and finally came to the Wanapitei River, for the next 50km we were either beside it or it was just off in the distance.

Finally we got to Rocky's Lodge which is on the Wahnapitae First Nation Reserve. We had 2 cabins reserved for the bunch of us. They were small but had all the trimmings that we needed for a quick one night stop. Lake Wanapitei is a huge body of water which can easily be seen from space. Fishermen were out catching trout and walleye.

Restaurant facilities were excellent with a good selection on the menu and good portions.

My son, Jeremy and grandkids, Brenden and Zach came up for supper from Sudbury, which was great as I hadn't seen them for quite a while.

After supper was spent checking out the lake and relaxing.

The next morning a hearty breakfast and lunches made by Rocky's staff and away just after 9:00AM. Can't say enough about the Rocky Lodge, very friendly, helpful with nice clean surroundings.

On the way back we took some more pics of the river as we stopped for a coffee break.

Stopped for lunch at a camp on Clarkson Lake where some of us had a thoughful moment of the trip.

Arrived safely back at the landing around 3:00PM, loaded up and away we left for home.

All in all a great ride, we were all in agreement that another ride should happen this fall. Back to the drawing board which won't be very hard after the trip we just finished.

Hi Bill,
Sounds like you guys had a great time on the trip. Paul was tired but he looked a lot better than he did earlier in the week when he was so ill.

Hi Bill
Just read your blog about the trip you took. Sure sounded like quite the adventure. Never did find out whether the lunch menus I sent you were of any use to you. Have never replied to a blog before so can't figure out this sign-up or account rigamarow. I have been busting a gut working in my little wood lot mulching the 170 new hardwood seedlings and taking out some mature trees and also finally got around to splitting the firewood I piled up last summer...just in time to make room for the new pile. Joanna and Kate and Wojo are coming to visit next week and are staying for my birthday. what a nice surprise.
Drop me a line some time
